MAKE no mistake, this was a clash Manly United FC desperately wanted to win.
And just before 5pm on Sunday they got their wish, beating fierce rivals Northbridge FC 2-0 at Cromer Park in driving rain.
An own goal following a Jordan Evans cross and a penalty from Kristie Crawford ensured a result the ladies can crow about for a few weeks.
Skipper Gemma O’Toole felt it was a long time coming.
“We have been playing well the past few rounds without reward, so it was nice to see our luck change,’’ she said.
“We also had a few out injured, the girls who stepped in did a great job.’’
Liz Morison was judged player of the match.
“ I was delighted with the effort Liz put in to defending from the front and she was a constant threat throughout the game, setting up a number of opportunities,’’ coach Chris Williams said.
“Simply put, Liz was brilliant.’’
