Dejan Pandurevic selected for the Young Socceroos
MANLY United coach Paul Dee has “absolutely no doubt” Dejan Pandurevic will hold his own playing for the Young Socceroos.
The attacking dynamo is part of a 23-strong squad ahead of the AFC under-19 Championship Qualifiers in Laos, with fixtures pencilled in against the Philippines (Friday), the hosts (Sunday) and Japan (Tuesday).
Ten group winners and five best second-placed teams will qualify for the AFC under-19 titles.
The top four teams from the AFC under-19 Championship then qualify for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in the Korea Republic next year.
“I wasn’t at all surprised to see Dejan picked, ever since he joined us from the Central Coast Mariners his attitude has been first class,’’ Dee said this week.
“Technically, he is a fantastic player and I thought he did really well in what was his first full season in the men’s competition.
“Hopefully being in that environment will see his game go to another level.”
Gead coach Paul Okon is confident his group of players are up to the task of qualifying abroad.
“We have had a number of camps and training matches together and the boys know the type of football we want to play,’’ he said.
“The challenge now is to perform under tournament conditions.”
