Skill Acquisition Program ANNOUNCEMENT for 2016/2017 program
The Club wanted to impart a few extra details about the upcoming SAP Trials and 2017 season prior to this weekend. Most of this will be relevant if your child is successful in the selection process but it’s information that you should be aware of prior to trialing.
There are about 150 kids in each age group trialing this year but the intake will be bigger. Two (2) SAP teams and one (1) Development Squad brings the numbers to 48 – 60+ selected players in the various age groups which is very exciting – A fantastic opportunity for developing more kids as football players.
1. There will be two (2) SAP teams in U9-U12s in 2017 who will both be under the same umbrella of the club and will train on the same days and times at Cromer. They will alternate with Cromer 1 and 2 so that each player gets to work on different field pitch surfaces which has also been recommended by the Club Technical Director and our Physio Team. In wet weather, teams with join together for mini games – training won’t be cancelled unless extreme weather. Times for all teams training will be 3:45pm arrival for 4:00pm start till 5:15pm finish Monday/Wednesday/Friday.
2. The selection of the 2 teams will be final and no swapping or requests to play with certain teams for any reason will be considered. Please note that the players will be divided fairly and no judgement on ability or standard will divide them. There is no ‘A’ or ‘B’ team. This is fantastic opportunity to provide a holistic environment which will be player centered allowing each player to improve their own development.
3. The two (2) teams will be playing in the same pool governed by FNSW draw and will likely play against each other.
4. Some dates to consider… Training starts 16/11/16 till 16/12/16 then Xmas break until training resumes on 23/1/17 till 22/9/17. There will be SAP parent induction night on 16/11/16 if you are selected for the team. We are currently in the process of organizing a few pre-season games as well on some weekends these games will take place most likely on Sunday mornings.
5. We understand that some players will be participating in other codes during the Summer sport season or other after school activities. It is Manly United FC’s policy that we encourage any young athlete the opportunity to try other sports. We do however request that if players are participating in other sports such as Futsal/Nippers/Summer Soccer/Baseball etc. that you are open and honest so that we can manage each individual accordingly, it should be about the players and what is in their best interest. It is expected that if and when you accept a position on the SAP team you understand that there will be three sessions per week which will last up to 1.5hrs.
6. Reminder that all the age groups for SAP teams will be looking for GKs so if you wish to trial for GK you must attend Sunday trials and you cannot trial as a player. If you make the team as GK you will train with the team and the specialist keeper training (Mondays 4-5pm) but weekly games will be of course mostly played in-goal and not on field.
7. Trials for players from this year’s SAP and Dev Squad begins Monday and if successful there will be another trial Wednesday and again Friday. Times on Monday may be pushed back by 1hr due to field availability. Times and updates will be published on the website soon. A further trial on Sunday may still be required so keep available. Non SAP and DS players who trial on Sunday this weekend and are successfully through to Mondays trial will have their names published by Monday lunchtime on the website. Obviously you won’t see your child’s name there as they automatically get invited to trial on Monday.
8. Manly United FC is very proud of the collaborative culture we have and at times may ask for assistance from volunteers to help. This year once again we will be asking parents to offer their skill sets for various roles. We will be looking to roster a BBQ duty, Set-up duty, refereeing etc. so that everyone has the opportunity to assist. Your help throughout the season is greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Manly United FC Technical Department
