Manly United signs five grand final heroes for 2018
Manly United has started its preparations for the 2018 National Premier League season by re-signing five players from the squad that took out the 2017 NPL1 First Grade Grand Final last week.
Grand Final hero and Man of the Match Dylan Mitchell has put pen to paper, as has midfielders Dominic Ferguson, Joe Fox, Sam Wilson and Mitchell Rooke.
There will be more signings within the next week.
“Manly United is proud of the 2017 Grand Final victory but will not rest on the success,” said Manly United CEO David Mason. “The Board and Technical staff has worked hard over the last 10 days to formulate a retention and recruitment plan and speak with all players from the 2017 squad.
“We have had nothing but positive feedback and it is fantastic to see Dylan, Dom, Joe, Sam and Mitch sign on so quickly for 2018. We will have more players sign on in the coming week and there is an overwhelming feeling that the best is yet to come.
“The core of the squad that won the Grand Final is made up of players who will only get better and the strong influence of local players has made the bond and the commitment of players to resign with the club very strong.”
Mitchell, who pulled off a string of saves during the Grand Final and subsequent penalty shoot out, was delighted to remain with Manly United.
“I’m delighted to be staying at Manly United for next season,” said Mitchell. “I love this club and to have success in the NPL with Manly United was an amazing end to what has been a steady improvement over the last few years.
“The support from the fans and the entire Manly United club right down to the juniors made the run through to the Grand Final really special
“We have tremendous facilities down at Cromer Park, the best in the league and a culture and environment that makes it very easy to want to play for Manly United. Why would I want to go anywhere else!”
