MUFC Profile: Kye Conna
Imagine sitting for your HSC but also playing first grade football for Manly United.
It is the jaw dropping scenario Kye Conna finds himself in, and the modest 17-year-old is soaking up every moment.
“The speed and physicality has been full on, but I expected it to be,” the school captain at Mater Maria College in Warriewood said this week.
“Definitely the guys in the team have been very welcoming, I listen closely to everything to have to say.
“I want to play football at the highest level possible, so I just need to keep improving.”
Conna recently returned to first grade after sitting out a few rounds due to a hamstring injury.
“I’m all good now, but it was hard to watch every week, I just wanted to be out there,” he said.
“I’m very fortunate to have Dylan Macallister around, he is such a clever player and is always willing to give me little tips to better my game.
“He also went to my school quite a few years ago now, so we have a laugh about that, especially with me being half his age.”
Conna, who scored 30 goals in 30 games in the under-16s a couple of years ago, is a natural finisher.
His composure in the final third is why coach Paul Dee had no hesitation in giving the teenager a senior contract.
“Kye is quick, agile and also has a terrific attitude,” he said.
“I chose to blood him because he has the ability to change a game.
“It is frightening to think he good he could end up, we will just look to keep exposing him to a professional environment and quality competition – the rest is up to him.”
