Manly United aiming to give Sydney FC the Blues
Manly United captain Jamie Lobb hasn’t ruled out playing semi-final football this season, but concedes it will be an uphill task for his team to finish in the top five.
The football gods haven’t been kind to the reigning premiers in 2018.
On close to a weekly basis, they have lost games by one goal or drawn fixtures they should have won.
“To be sitting in 11th spot is certainly not what we expected,” Lobb said.
“Looking at the table, we need plenty of other teams to do us favours, which isn’t great, you always want the outcome to be in your own hands.
“We will enjoy the weekend off, but will be ready for Sydney FC.”
Robbie Stanton’s youth laden Sky Blues make their way to Cromer Park next Wednesday night in a deferred round 18 clash.
The emerging stars, away this weekend on pre-season duty with Steve Corica’s A-League outfit, sit bottom of the league, but can cause an upset on their day.
“Most of their play goes through Sam McIlhatton, he is a quality player,” Lobb said.
“I guess it is the old cliché – we will take it week by week and just see what happens.
“We are due for a little bit of luck.”
Joey Fox and Nikola Taneski are tipped to return from injury for United.
Kick-off is 7.30pm.
