Association Youth League Tour Update
Day 3 – Game 1 Vs Bayern Hoff
The lads much anticipated first match against Bayern Hoff FC (located in the town of Hoff about an hour from our HQ at Bad Brumbach), kicked off at 6pm at their main stadium complex.
Whilst all the Manly lads got the better part of 10-12 hours sleep following the previous 24 hours + of travel, jet lag and some unexpected sickness for 4 of the boys was expected to create some additional challenges for the boys.
And so it proved to be, with Hoff knocking in a long range strike in the first 10 minutes and some defensive lapses creating a second before halftime. After starting well, but struggling to adjust in the middle stages of the first half, the boys had a fantastic last 15 minutes and were unlucky not to have pulled at least one back, with a couple of great chances with just the goalkeeper to beat unfortunately going wide.
The second half for the lads didn’t start well with the boys conceding a brace early on following some uncharacteristic lapses, but like the first half the team then settled well and showed some real enterprise going forward, with Chris continuing to urge the boys on to be ‘bold and brave’. Once again, Manly had some great chances and with a bit of luck should have put at least 3 in the back of the net by full time.
Without question, this ability to remain positive on the pitch will be the lads biggest challenge and greatest learning opportunity. To continue to play the Manly way even when being up against talented opposition and under pressure is difficult , but the boys early commitment to continuing to attack and press rather than just sit back and play negatively was impressive and bodes well for the rest of the tour.
All in all a great first hit out, with a lot of positives to come out of this showing. While we ended up conceding 6, this did not reflect the match and the lads will be far better for the run. With another day of training tomorrow before heading to the Albim Cup, the boys will be well prepared and ready to surprise.
