MANLY United coach Paul Dee is happy to fly under the radar in the 2019 NSW NPL men’s one competition.
Speaking just a few days out from his team’s season opener against Wollongong on Sunday, the highly respected mentor believes his team will surprise a few big name opponents.
“Consistency is key for us, we need to perform each week, the competition is that close,” Dee said.
“I’m happy with the squad we have, and the players we have brought in have quickly adapted to our system.
“Obviously we don’t have the budget of some clubs like Marconi, Rockdale and APIA but that’s fine, each week their level of expectation will be huge.
“We are a mobile team with experience all over the park, I’m sure we will punch above our weight, it is how we do things at Manly.”
Left winger Adam Parkhouse has returned to the club from Wellington Phoenix in the A-League and Dejan Pandurevic recently was released from his contract in Serbia.
Throw in the likes of Scott Balderson, Brendan Cholakian, Kieren Paull as well as goalkeeper Dylan Mitchell and the squad looks formidable.
“Charles Mendy and Sam Gallagher will be significant for us,” Dee said.
“It was no secret we needed depth in a few key areas, last year was disappointing.
“Safe to say I will have plenty of selection headaches some weeks, which you need at this level.”
United are targeting a spot in the top five and Dee believes it is achievable.
“Like any season, you will have your good and bad moments, how we respond is important,” he said.
“I expect a big showing from all the boys, starting on Sunday against Wolves.”
