MUFC Profile: Joe Fox
JOE Fox is one of the lucky ones – he really is living the dream.
The English born midfielder has been with Manly United since 2016, and while the grand final triumph over APIA Leichhardt in his second season is the obvious on-field highlight, the club has allowed the 27-year-old to explore his other passion – coaching.
“At the moment I’m in charge of the SAP program, for kids from the under-6s through to under-12s,” Fox said.
“Some of the kids are incredibly talented, to play a role in their early development is great fun.
“Along with Christo (Technical Director Andrew Christiansen) and (teammate) Sam Gallagher, we may as well call Cromer Park home, sometimes we are down there seven days a week.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way though, this is exactly what I want to be doing.”
An impressive junior CV which saw Fox represent the likes of Hull City and Leeds United at his peak.
Before moving to Australia he played with the likes of Premier League legends Nick Barmby and Jimmy Bullard as well as current Manchester City defender Fabian Delph.
“It was amazing, I learnt so much off those guys,” he said.
“Fabian especially, even at a young age (the pair were at Leeds together) he was just a beast, he always wanted to find ways to be better.”
Fox intends to keep playing for Manly ‘for as long as they want me’ and is loving the northern beaches way of life.
“Living in Dee Why, football around the corner, I’m very lucky,” Fox said.
“Once I hang up the boots I’ll look to pursue coaching even more and go as far as I can in the game.
“It has been a great journey, but it’s not over yet.”
