NIC Simonsen could easily have left Manly United last season.
After two years playing Reserve Grade at Cromer Park, an offer came in from the Illawarra Stingrays.
Luckily for Manly, loyalty won out.
The Beacon Hill junior, who has been with the club for 12 years, knocked back the opportunity to start fresh elsewhere, instead backing herself to return to first grade.
“I played first grade back in 2016 before Claire Coelho arrived at the club,” the goalkeeper said.
“Competition for spots is always good, I just had to bide my time.
“(Coach) Chris Williams told me late last year Claire wasn’t coming back for this season, so I knew the spot was mine to lose.
“We started the year slowly, but hopefully we can come good now.”
United look to have turned the corner after beating the ladder leading Stingrays on Easter Monday.
Simonsen was one of Manly’s best that afternoon and the shot-stopper is aiming for a big campaign before turning her attention to the W-League.
“I love playing football all year round and hopefully I’ll get another contract with the Western Sydney Wanderers,” the 22-year-old said.
“I just need to keep finding ways to improve my game.”
