MUFC Profile: Finn Ashton
FINN Ashton is Manly United through and through.
Identified by coaches as an emerging talent aged nine, he was picked in the club’s under-10s Development Squad – and he hasn’t left.
Ashton recently caught the eye in first grade versus Marconi in the Waratah Cup, and now the 19-year-old wants to feature in Paul Dee’s plans as often as possible.
“The step up was unbelievable from the 20s, the speed and intensity was full on,” the defensive midfielder said.
“I really enjoyed it, I felt I played OK, I just tried to keep things simple.”
The youngster is expected to play first grade again this weekend – against A-League club Central Coast Mariners at Pluim Park on Saturday morning.
“Hopefully I get an opportunity, even though it is a friendly, you never know who is watching,” Ashton said.
“It will be another massive step up, but if I’m lucky to get picked, I’ll do my best.”
Away from football, Ashton refreshingly runs his own race.
He is currently working on a short film, highlighting the numerous life challenges which come with finishing the HSC and beyond.
“I started a uni degree at UNSW and also worked in an office…I hated both those things, so I’m just trying to find my right path,” he said.
“Who knows what will happen, that excites me, I like to do things my way.”
