MUFC Profile: Lucas Rainbird
LUCAS Rainbird was relaxing at home last Saturday when he got a phone call from Manly United first grade coach Paul Dee.
The 18-year-old had every reason to be excited and nervous at the same time, after Dee informed the Wakehurst junior he would be making his first grade debut the next day versus APIA Leichhardt at Cromer Park.
And the defender made the most of his opportunity, finishing with the Premier Automotive Player of the Match in the 1-0 defeat.
“It was a great experience, but I was definitely nervous,” Rainbird, who has been with Manly since the age of 10, said.
“I just tried to keep things simple, play my natural game.
“Travis (Oughtred) and Sammy (Gallagher) were great, their advice on the run was really good.”
Rainbird, studying his HSC at St Pius X College Chatswood, is in the mix to play Sydney United 58 FC this Sunday in the league and potentially in the FFA Cup round of 16.
“Who knows, we will just wait and see,” he said.
“I definitely enjoyed first grade last weekend, a few more games would be great.”
Life at Cromer Park is also a family affair for the Rainbird’s.
Lucas’ brother Nick plays in Manly United’s 18s and Tash is a member of the 14s girls.
