MUFC Profile: Massimo Forlico
MASSIMO Forlico is a footballer with a big future.
A Year 11 student at Knox Grammar, the 17-year-old recently made his first grade debut for Manly United against APIA Leichhardt, and followed that up with another appearance last weekend versus Sydney United 58 FC.
An out and out winger comfortable on either flank, the teenager has ambitious plans over the next few years.
“I was hoping to play first grade this year, so it was nice to achieve that goal,” he said.
“I broke my foot in pre-season which was frustrating, I just had to make sure my recovery was spot on.
“Thankfully I managed to return mid-season, and then Paul (Dee) gave me an opportunity, which I really enjoyed.”
Forlico cut his football teeth in the country, growing up in Griffith.
He moved to Sydney and signed on with Manly United in 2017 to play in the 15s.
“My brother spent time at the club and loved it, so it was an obvious choice for me,” Forlico said.
“It is a good club with a great culture, I’m happy to be a part of it all.
“(Coach) Jason Bennett has been a huge influence on my game, I can’t thank him enough.”
This weekend, Forlico will be a key figure when Manly United’s 18s play Sydney FC in an elimination semi-final at Lambert Park.
Don’t be surprised to see the talented youngster in first grade on a regular basis in 2020 – his talent matches his ambition.
