2016 Development Squads – U6, 7 & 8’s
The U6/7/8 Development Squads are Manly United’s first phase of football development. Leading into the ever popular SAP program at U9s, the U6/7/8 Program aims to empower kids with the ball at their feet and develop their love for the game.
The program runs for 30 weeks on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, starting from late February 2016 until early September 2016.
The sessions run for 50 minutes each and will go ahead at Cromer Park, the home of football on the Northern Beaches.
The first 2 weeks of the program are trials.
Players are required to attend these trials where they will be judged on their application and desire to get involved.
Ability is secondary to enthusiasm at this age.
This helps us assess whether or not a player can participate in a 30 week program.
Manly United’s coaching staff deliver the sessions, tailored specifically for each age group.
The following coaches will deliver the U6/7/8 Program in 2016: Eddie Connolly, Adam Carstens, Bryn Vanderfield and Henry Gallagher.
All coaches have worked extensively with youth players at Manly United in the past and are experienced in creating a learning environment for the kids for them to develop.
The composition of the 2016 squads will be as follows:
U6 – 28 players
U7 – 28 players
U8 – 48 players
Players will be broken into training groups of 12 to ensure that coaches can individually develop players.
The cost of the program is $1100 and includes 30 weeks of training, 2 nights a week; a Manly United training kit and tracksuit and an opportunity to be involved in Manly United activities on match day and so forth.
We would like to thank the team at Manly United for their professional positive coaching techniques.
We think our son Brody has learnt a lot about soccer and also about life whilst been involved.
He has also had great fun making some new friends on the way.
Once again a big thank you to Nick, Eddie, Adam & Lindy for the great work.

Just wanted to say how much Charlie enjoyed the U6 Training and Development squad this year. Charlie had never played soccer before, so it gave him some great skills and confidence for when he played in the winter tournament and now summer soccer.
The coaching style of Bryn was fantastic and I am impressed with how he managed to control all of those young boys and keep them focussed!
Just want to say a massive thank you to Nick, Bryn and Manly United FC and the under 6 Development Squad.
My son Isaac Smith just loved it with his new mates
He would ask for Manly United each day and a big cheer would go up when it was training day.
His skills have gone to whole new level but his excitement for the game is the thing that has really impressed me.
My son Calum has participated in the Manly United U6/U7 Development Squad for the past two years. I have found the coaches to be very professional in their approach as well as encouraging the children to develop to their full potential as well as have fun and foster a love for the game. My son has really enjoyed his time training with the team and has learnt some great skills from the skills and drills programme. I have also found the communication with parents to be top notch and regular feedback and parent interaction is always encouraged. I will definitely have my three boys apply for the programme next year.
I just wanted to say a massive thank you and the whole Manly United team.
My son could not wait for each session. The coaching team found the perfect mix of teaching the kids skills while making it fun. As a soccer player his skills have improved dramatically. He has gained confidence to play against children much older than himself. The training sessions were always well planned and had a clear objective. Above all my son developed a love of soccer and certainly loved the program. We certainly hope to continue our involvement with Manly United.

Thank you for all the efforts the MUFC development team and coaching staff have put in over the past season.
Reese has developed a very good level of football basics that will be helpful in his future development as a footballer. This is made possible through the efforts of the coaching staff of MUFC’s Development Squads by allowing the players to learn football by playing football, discovering new skills, possibilities, focusing on the development and not results, making new friends and just having fun.
The highlight of the season was the walking onto the field with the First Grade players for their home game against Sydney United and the thrilling end of season Mini World Cup. I honestly miss the ‘are we there yet’ en route to training every week and look forward to next season. Well done Guys, see you in 2016.

For an 8 year old boy who is passionate about soccer, the Manly United Development Squad provided a consistent and thorough approach to developing his skills. The coaching staff were superb, the drills and games were always fun for him.
Even on the rainy cold days, Sam was always keen to be at the training sessions!
Heath has been in the development program since he was in the under 7’s. For the three years he has been involved he has been coached by a highly professional, encouraging and knowledgeable team. His love of the game and attending every week has never waived. His skills and confidence have grown and he made the top team for his local club because of his years of training.
The coaches had an individual approach and modified training for injuries.
When I watch him it amazes me with his crosses, understanding of the game and his ability to do things at his tender age.
He looks forward to hopefully many more years of training at Manly United.
After initially being apprehensive because he didn’t know anyone, my 6 year old son Jacob couldn’t wait to get to training each week. We found the program excellent and enjoyed watching all the kids improve dramatically during the year while having a great time doing it.
