MUFC profile: Frank Gray
HE HAS A football CV which is the envy of many and his time spent in the dug out after hanging up his boots was equally successful as a manager.
The great news for Manly United is that Frank Gray has now turned his attention to Manly United.
Born in Scotland, Gray played for Leeds United and Nottingham Forest at his peak, winning European titles with both clubs.
After retiring he turned his attention to coaching, and worked at clubs like Blackburn and Southampton.
He moved to Sydney with his wife last year to help run a family business, but his passion for football remained.
The guest speaker at this weekend’s Manly United Gala Ball, Gray has agreed to work in an advisory role for the club until at least the end of the season.
“I will see first hand what the coaches are doing, and then possibly look to bring in other players if need be,” he said.
“I’ve seen the men’s team play once this season, in the FFA Cup against Mounties Wanderers.
“I was impressed with the standard, some of the lads are decent footballers.”
Working with first grade boss Paul Dee appeals to Gray.
“He is a good operator and knows what he wants going forward,” he said.
“Hopefully I can help him out here and there.”
Gray will also oversee the Manly United junior program and work with the women across all grades.
