Manly United’s Australian Schoolgirls
THEY have long been earmarked as outstanding players on the books of Manly United FC.
And come January they will grace the international stage after being picked in the Australian Schoolgirls football squad traveling to the United Kingdom.
Defender Ally Green can’t wait to play in Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
“It was a goal of mine to make this team,’’ she said.
“I was fortunate to be in a very good NSW squad. We won all our games over in Perth pretty comfortably.
“I just made sure I did the simple things right.”
Remy Siemsen, Green’s club teammate at Manly, could be anything.
The striker is only 16 but was an integral part of the NSW team in the west.
“Remy was great over in Perth. I was happy to see her play so well on such a big stage,’’ Green said.
“It will also be fun having a familiar face when we are overseas.”
Both girls will eventually play in the W-League – the only question is when.
Green, who also represented the Young Matildas this year, is training with Sydney FC at the moment, but won’t play in the upcoming season.
“I just want to get school out of the way and stay injury-free before January,’’ the 18-year-old said.
“I did get offered a contract with the (Western Sydney) Wanderers but I chose to stay local and just train with Sydney FC.
“After the trip, I want to have a big 2017 with Manly. Then I will look at playing in the W-League.”
