MEN’S PREVIEW: MANLY UNITED v SYDNEY UNITED 58
The Manly United Men’s 1st Grade team are back at home on Saturday night and will be looking to make amends for last weekend’s close loss – Sydney United 58 are the next visitors to Cromer Park. Saturday’s game also provides a chance for Manly to get revenge, following defeat at the hands of Sydney United in Round 5.
Sydney United are hoping to rebound after a shock 6-3 defeat to Western Sydney Wanderers in their last league outing. They were also in action midweek, comfortably defeating Inter Lions 6-1 and securing a third consecutive appearance in the Waratah Cup Final. Chris Payne is a familiar face to Manly fans and was on the scoresheet against Inter, while our defence will have to watch out for Patrick Antelmi, who has scored eight times in the league this season.
As usual, Seiya Kambayashi will be a key player for Manly and his brilliant free kick against Sydney FC is another reminder of the talent he possesses. Jesse Piriz will also be important and his ability to play in either midfield or defence could be valuable as we head towards the business end of the campaign. It’s been good to see Manly’s youngsters making their mark in 1st Grade – Hunter Elliott has been impressive in defence, and Stefan Visscher has looked lively up front.
Manly’s U20 team head into the weekend in seventh place, but they are only six points away from U20 league leaders Marconi Stallions. Their last outing was an impressive 2-2 draw with Sydney FC which stretched their unbeaten run to four games. Corey Cronin stood out in that game against Sydney, while Olly Burden has already made a few important goal scoring contributions since linking up with the Manly U20 side.
