Cromer Park was buzzing from start to finish as Manly United’s annual Festival of Football brought the entire club together for a day to remember.
With sunshine overhead and strong crowds turning out in support, every corner of the ground was alive with energy as all pathway teams took to the field – from the youngest juniors through to First Grade. Performances across the board were full of energy and intent, with strong results across many games and even the narrowest losses highlighting the club’s competitive spirit.
Senior Men Make a Statement Win Over Rockdale
The Manly boys produced one of their standout performances of the season with a commanding 4–1 victory over Rockdale Ilinden, combining resilience and attacking flair to secure a memorable result at home.
After weathering early pressure and relying on some sharp work from goalkeeper Harry Turner, Manly grew into the contest and took the lead through Ayumu Kimura. The hosts carried that momentum into the second half, with Kimura providing the assist for Sam Griffiths to double the advantage.
Not long after, the game took a dramatic turn with a second yellow card becoming a red and reducing Manly to ten men. Rather than retreat, the players responded emphatically. A brilliant solo effort from Stephan De robiller quickly extended the lead, before Matt O’Donoghue’s strike-turned-header added a fourth to cap off a dominant display. While Rockdale managed a late consolation goal, the result was never in doubt as Manly claimed a deserved victory.
Composed Performance for the Senior Women Secures Three Points
Just before the men’s fixture, the Women’s First Grade delivered another strong performance, earning a 2-0 win over Hills United.
After controlling large periods of the first half without reward, the breakthrough eventually came in the 73rd minute, with Nicole Stuart winning possession and finishing confidently at the near post – a goal that reflected Manly’s persistence and control throughout the contest.
Brin Gentle sealed the result in stoppage time with a composed strike from outside the area, ensuring all three points came Manly’s way and capping off a disciplined and professional performance by everyone.
Wins and Goals Flow Across the Fields
Beyond the First Grade fixtures, there were plenty of positives across Cromer Park, with Manly United’s U20 Men and U23 Women both recording impressive wins. The U20s secured a composed 2–0 victory, while the U23 Women were dominant in a 4–0 performance to continue their strong run of form.
In the Boys Youth League, the day delivered a mix of results with two wins, a draw and two narrow losses. Across the five fixtures, Manly sides found the back of the net eight times – including an impressive six-goal performance in the U16s match – highlighting their attacking capability.
The Girls Youth League enjoyed a particularly strong outing, recording three wins from four matches and an outstanding 17 goals across the day, underlining the quality and confidence within the squad.
Our Mixed and Girls JDL teams were also in action, embracing the opportunity to take their training into a matchday environment. With smiles across the board and plenty of development on display, it was another valuable experience for our youngest players.
Manly Family in Full Swing
Off the field, the Festival of Football delivered just as much energy, with food stalls, inflatables and skills challenges keeping players and families entertained across the day. Supported by our club partners, it was a true community event with a family feel, all adding to the vibrant atmosphere. One of those memorable days that captures what our club is all about.
Next games: Manly Senior Men travel to Marconi Stadium next Saturday, while the Senior Women are at Wanderers Park on Sunday.
