Squad Spotlight: U20s Show the Strength of the Pathway

MUFC 2026 Snr Men U20 Rnd 14 team

Manly United’s U20s are enjoying an impressive season, combining strong performances on the field with the important role of developing the club’s next generation of senior players.

Currently sitting fourth on the ladder and firmly in the hunt for finals football, the group continues to show its quality while providing opportunities for players to challenge themselves at higher levels.

That development pathway has already been on display this season, with Harry Turner, Will McCreery and Doug John all earning First Grade call-ups after impressing with their consistency and form in the U20s. Goalkeeper Turner stepped into the First Grade side for several weeks during Mackenzie Syron’s injury layoff, producing a series of assured performances that highlighted both his quality and readiness for the highest level of NPL football. McCreery has also featured in several First Grade fixtures, bolstering the attack and providing an assist in the team’s Australia Cup victory over Sutherland. John, meanwhile, made an immediate impact, earning Player of the Week honours on debut.

It’s not only the U20s progressing to First Grade, with younger players from the Boys Youth League also being given the chance to represent the senior squad this season. U18s players Seb Bergin, Roy Stines, Charlie Coles, Kit Harper and Ned Howell have all gained valuable experience in the senior environment. In a sign of the exciting talent coming through the club, 15-year-old Howell scored a dramatic late winner in the Round 20 fixture against St George, while Coles announced himself in style by scoring on his senior debut against the Wanderers the following week – one of eight goals in the match!

With finals football firmly in their sights and more young players continuing to emerge each week, the future is looking bright for Manly United’s U20s. From emerging U18s to players earning senior opportunities, this talented group is a great example of what the Manly United pathway is all about – and one the Manly community can be proud of.
