Manly United’s Senior Women fought back from a goal down to earn a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Sydney University at Cromer Park on Sunday afternoon.

In a tightly contested match between two well-matched sides, the visitors took a narrow lead into the break after converting a first-half penalty. Despite the setback, Manly responded strongly after halftime and quickly shifted the momentum in their favour.

The equaliser arrived through a superbly worked set piece. Emma Bates delivered a clever pass from a corner routine to Kayla Osborn, who arrived at the edge of the area and unleashed a powerful strike into the back of the net to level the scores.

The goal sparked a strong period for the hosts, who continued to apply pressure and looked the more likely side to find a winner. Ariella Cabezas and Emily Minett both went close in the closing stages as Manly searched for a decisive breakthrough.

At the other end, goalkeeper Jodie Drever produced several important saves to ensure the visitors were unable to regain the lead.

While neither side could find a winner, the performance highlighted the character and quality within the Manly squad as they secured another valuable point against strong opposition.

U23s Respond Well in Home Draw

The U23s also shared the points with Sydney University, battling to a 1-1 draw at Cromer Park. After falling behind eight minutes in, a determined Manly responded through Hailey Chappelow, whose 75th-minute strike restored parity to ensure the young side came away with a deserved point.

Both age groups stay put on the ladder as they head into their next fixture – another home game, this one against the Macarthur Rams on Sunday, June 7. First Grade KO: 5pm, Cromer Park.
