Manly United Chasing Historic Sapphire Cup Success

MUFC 2026 Snr Women team

The stage is set for a historic night as Manly United’s First Grade Women take on UNSW FC in the 2026 Sapphire Cup Final, with both clubs just one win away from lifting the trophy for the first time.

After impressive semi-final victories, the two NPL Women’s NSW sides will meet under lights at Valentine Sports Park in what promises to be a fitting finale to this year’s tournament. For Manly, the decider represents the club’s first-ever Sapphire Cup Final and the opportunity to create another memorable chapter in its history.

Manly booked its place in the final with a composed 2-0 victory over Northern Tigers, while UNSW overcame Hills United 2-1 to continue an impressive cup campaign of their own.

The two teams met earlier this season in Round 9 of the NPL Women’s NSW competition, with UNSW claiming a narrow 2-1 victory at Cromer Park. Brinley Gentle opened the scoring for Manly before the visitors responded in the second half to edge a tightly contested encounter.

Wednesday night’s final is expected to be another close battle. Manly will once again look to goalkeeper Jodie Drever and a settled defensive unit featuring Phoebe Gilbane, Grace Arnold, Emma Bates and Ruby Jackson, while in attack, Brinley Gentle, Ellie Kerr and Emily Minett have been key contributors throughout the campaign. Midfield leader Chloe O’Brien has also played an important role in guiding the side through to the club’s first Sapphire Cup decider.

UNSW, meanwhile, boasts a talented squad packed with experience and attacking quality, setting the scene for what should be a high-quality contest between two evenly matched teams determined to make history.

Head Coach Tom Hopley is backing his squad to embrace the occasion.

“You can expect a determined group of girls who will go out, play with bravery and enjoy the occasion,” he said.

Be there and support our girls as they chase the first Sapphire Cup title in Manly United history.
